Welcome to the Visual Ecology Laboratory,  School of Biological Sciences, University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia. .

In collaboration with our colleagues at the Queensland Brain Institute, our research group is interested in a variety of questions about how marine organisms perceive the world and how their bright and conspicuous colour signals are used as to communicate messages to each other.

Our main research questions focus on:

  • highly contrasting colour signals, including warning and disruptive coloration;
  • visual systems in reef fish;
  • colour change;
  • evolution and maintenance of mimicry systems;
  • chemical ecology in nudibranchs;
  • cleaning mutualisms.
